The goal is to maximise the number of patients that can be seen within the theatre session without comprising patient safety or outcomes. If sessions are finishing routinely early then there is wasted theatre time and a missed opportunity to treat a patient on the waiting list who is waiting for care. It is particularly important to monitor early finishes if the doctor has patients who have exceeded their clinically recommended timeframe.
